Perceived rate of movement depends on contrast.

چکیده
The perceived rate of movement of sine wave gratings has been measured over a range of contrasts. At temporal frequencies below about 8 Hz a decrease in contrast reduces apparent velocity. At 16 Hz a reduction in contrast increases perceived velocity.

Concurrent measurement of perceived speed and speed discrimination threshold using the method of single stimuli
Velocity matching using the method of Constant Stimuli shows that perceived velocity varies with contrast [Thompson, P. (1982). Perceived rate of movement depends upon contrast. Vision Research, 22, 377-380]. Random contrast jitter would therefore be expected to increase the slopes of psychometric functions, and thus the velocity discrimination threshold. However, McKee, S., Silverman, G., and ...
متن کاملExamining the Perceived Consequences and Usage of MOOCs on Learning Effectiveness
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have recently received a great deal of attention from the academic communities. However, these courses face low completion rates and there are very limited research pertaining to this problem. Therefore, this study uses Triandis theory to better understand variables that are indicative of MOOC completion. Furthermore, this study scrutinizes the quantitative r...
متن کاملSpeed can go up as well as down at low contrast: Implications for models of motion perception
It is well-known that reducing the contrast of a slow moving stimulus reduces its apparent speed. [Thompson, P. (1982). Perceived rate of movement depends on contrast. Vision Research, 22, 377-380.] report of this finding also suggested that at speeds above 8 cycles/s reducing contrast increased perceived speed. However in a later report, Stone and Thompson (1992), using a more rigorous, forced...
متن کاملBreastfeeding Self Efficacy and Perceived Stress in Primiparous Mothers
Background and Aim: Breastfeeding is a health-promoting and disease-preventing activity of mother with acceptable cost-effectiveness. Successful breastfeeding depends on various physiological and psychological factors such as maternal breastfeeding self efficacy and perceived stress. The aim of this study is to determine exclusive breastfeeding self efficacy and perceived stress in primipara ...
متن کاملAnalytical determination of the chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) contrast in molecular magnetic resonance imaging
Magnetic resonance based on molecular imaging allows tracing contrast agents thereby facilitating early diagnosis of diseases in a non-invasive fashion that enhances the soft tissue with high spatial resolution. Recently, the exchange of protons between the contrast agent and water, known as the chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) effect, has been measured by applying a suitable pulse ...
